The hard truth is the lack of knowledge the blower has that made the piece. Many times it is a cadmium color that boils, but all glass will boil if heated too hot. A skilled blower will know how to use the colors so they do not boil.
Sandblasting will give the glass a mate like finish, some say feels velvety. Sometimes fine frit can be used to give the glass a texture also.
This all comes down to what the blower wants. If the glass gets too thick, it can crack if the blower is not used to working with thin and thick glass. Also, to get shapes sometimes it must be done hallow or it would also get too heavy. Elev8 does many of their custom …

If you did the punty properly you will put a little heat on the connection, then remove the heat really fast with a marver or some metal. Then the punty pops right off easy peasy, but you must have done a proper connection.
