Uranium does have uranium salts in it, and is uv reactive.  This type of glass was started around the 1800’s and around 1880 it started to gain massive popularity.  It is also known as vaseline glass.   

Can it be used in multiple different types of glass?  Yes, it is used in both boro and soft glass, but started in soft glass. 

Was the uv reactivity it’s original allurement? Was it just the color?  The original allure was for sure the green color as there were no such things as UV lights in the 1800’s.

Was there a certain purpose for its use, like in certain machinery, or was it just an esthetic thing?  It was mostly just used for looking pretty.
