When did glass pipes overtake ceramic and metal pipes as the preferred method of smoking?

We feel this happened about 20 years ago when Bog Snodgrass started making them.  As people seen them there was no reason to use a metal or any other type of pipe.  It started with the gold and silver fuming creating the color changer!  We feel this was about the late 1990’s
