These are made the same way any other faceted item is made. It all comes down to how the piece is held. This can be a clamp or a wax.

how thick does glass have to be for it to be facete/cut without breaking
1/4 inch is about the least one would want it to be. The thicker the better, so the angles can get deeper.
How to tell the difference between dichro and super finely crushed opal.
Can a pipe be triple blown?
Should my heater be glowing red all the way through?
No, the heater on the Elev8 desktop vaporizers like the Silver Surfer, Super Surfer and Da Buddha have in reality a small spot that actually get super hot. This spot will also radiate out further up and down the heater, but it is about 3/8 inch that gets hot.
In the image below there is a heater that is about 4 years old on the LEFT. The new heater on the right as you can see glows pretty much the same.
The heater will either work at 100% or it will not work. The heater will runs its life full until it can no longer work. This can be from 3-15 years with most heaters lasting to about 7-9.

How are opals shaped before encasements
Opals are water jet cut from a manufacturer. Theoretically an artist could shape one with a dremel.
I’ve got a 4 inch 3 stage SSV Grinder I got back when you guys were still 7th Floor, I’ve used it daily ever since, and it finally needs a good cleaning. Since its was a powdered coating, is there any way to clean it that won’t harm the paint/coating?
Cleaning the grinder with alcohol should not affect the powder coating at all.
