Would someone proficient in widdling wood, be able to adapt to etching, and faceting borosilicate glass?

That person’s interest may give a helping hand in growing that skill, but the two mediums are entirely different making that skill jump drastic.  But if you can widdle wood, you are many steps ahead of a person that wants to carve and has not widdled wood.
