Wear and tear is the biggest thing that will cause a decal to come off.
If the decal gets put in a kiln a few times, that can cause it to come off.
Some harsh cleaners can remove the decal.
Just putting a pipe in and out of your pocket can cause it to wear off faster, and even faster if you have change and or keys in your pocket.
