SELECTING THE PROPER JOINT SIZE AND TYPE IS CRITICAL!

Here at Elev8 Glass Gallery, we hear over and over, what size joint do I have?  This is a very common question that most every one has at some point in their life.    The good news is we have the answers that will help you.  Below is an image that shows a great way to see what size and style joint you have.

Know what size ground glass joint you have

19mm Female Glass Joint-
This is the largest of the standard joint sizes used in the industry.    These joints are used on many water pipes that have a downstem.  This is so that you can have a nice large downstem and have what we think is the perfect size joint for your bowl.  This 19mm male joint fits perfectly with a 19mm male joint.  The joint is about the size of a quarter.

14mm Female Glass Joint-
This is the middle standard female joint size.   This is the most common glass joint size for rigs and water pipes that do not have a removable down stem.  A 14mm-10mm downstem is what is used in this joint if you have a removable downstem.  The joint is about the size of a nickle.

10mm Female Glass Joint-
This is the baby joint and is mostly used on mini rigs and small water pipes.   There is no downstem that can go into this and only works with a 10mm male joint.  The joint size is about the size of a dime.

19mm Male Glass Joint-
This male joint fits the 19mm female joint and is the largest of the standard male joints in the industry.  The joint size is about the same as a dime

14mm Male Glass Joint-
This male joint is the most common male joint in the industry.  Most bowls are this because they usually go into a 19mm downstem that transition to a 14mm female.  This joint size is about 20% smaller than a dime

10mm Male Glass Joint-
This male joint is the most common male joint in the industry. Most bowls are this because they usually go into a 19mm downstem that transition to a 14mm female. This joint size is about 60% smaller than a dime

Using some coins you might have in your pocket will help easily identify what size joint you have an type.

Male joints go into the female joint.

What is sand blasting aka abrasive blasting?

Sandblasting is when a product is subjected to sand or some other coarse material that is pushed out at a high velocity by force of air.  The abrasive hits the surface very hard giving the glass a matte finish or some called a rough finish.

Why are glass pieces sandblasted you might ask?

  1. The glassblower wanted a matte finish
  2. The glass had some devitrification and this was the best way to hide or remove it.
  3. The glass had some other imperfection and sandblasting is used to remove the imperfection or hide it.

Any issue with leaving the glass aroma top on Da Buddha, Silver or Super Surfer vaporizer when vaping but not using the diffuser?

The vaporizer units have been designed to work with the heater cover and aromatop for the flower to be used at the same time.  The unit can be set at your sweet spot and left there all day with the aroma top on the unit diffusing oils.

Be careful not to bump the unit when vaping with the aroma top.  Never fill more than 1/2 full of oils to prevent any spill should the vape be bumped.

Are UV colors harder to work with?

Really all colors have their own working style.  Most colors are harder to work then clear, but if worked properly it really becomes more time to make sure the color does not boil.

Is it harder to make a 4 inch mini tube or a 12 inch beaker? No work just clear!

If it is clear a 4 inch is way easier.  It is lighter and smaller, making it easier to handle.  The larger one goes on a rig that requires more strength if not using a machine like a lathe to hold the glass.  Also, the larger the glass gets the hotter it is, which makes it more difficult and more costly to make.

What is CBD? Does it actually work??

AHHH, the CBD question.

Yes CBD can help people with many things.   As CBD is a cannabinoid and we have an endocannabinoid system so our bodies do work with CBD and other cannabinoids.

You can learn more about the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in cannabis in the blog the Art of Vaporizing.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring cannabis compound (cannabinoid) present in cannabis plants. It is not psychoactive like other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Despite its lack of psychoactive abilities, researchers have shown that cannabidiol possesses significant antioxidant and neuroprotective properties that appear to be beneficial in the treatment of neurological disorders. CBD is found in all parts of the cannabis plant but is the most prevalent in the female plant’s flower resin glands.
