This all comes down to what the blower wants. If the glass gets too thick, it can crack if the blower is not used to working with thin and thick glass. Also, to get shapes sometimes it must be done hallow or it would also get too heavy.

Yes, anything can be burned. Silicon mats will hold up the best. Dab Padz are not meant to have heat on them. Silicon pads can withstand short times of hot heat of about 500 degress F. Anything kind of pad that has a squishy mat under it will get burnt from high heat.
